Lari

Lari Mwanyama is a queer multidisciplinary artist and storyteller from South Africa whose work breathes with colour, intuition, and spiritual grounding. At the heart of their creative practice lies a devotion to love—its textures, its contradictions, and its expansive forms. Through vibrant palettes and layered compositions, Lari explores the emotional landscapes of love in all its messiness and magic: the dizzying highs, the aching lows, and the tender moments in between. Lari uses colour as a portal—both metaphorically and materially—to invite viewers into lush, imagined worlds that honour queerness, ancestral memory, and childlike wonder. Their art centres bodies that are often left out of dominant narratives, making space for a love that is limitless and not bound by gender, shape, or expectation. Their works feel like spells: visually playful yet emotionally exact, offering both joy and reflection to those who encounter them. Guided by a deeply intuitive process and an Afrofuturistic lens, Lari believes that creativity is a language of liberation—one that nourishes community, archives feeling, and carves space for dreaming beyond constraint.
